Nourishing children ages 6 weeks to 6 years
Tiny House
The Tiny House Classroom consists of 8 children, ages 6 weeks-17 months, and 2 staff. At this age, it is important that we follow each child's cues. Our daily schedule must be flexible to accommodate each infant's needs. The guiding principle of Montessori is to follow the child. Teachers observe each infant's milestones and abilities and provide works and activities based on their developmental needs. Our goal is to foster a close, secure relationship between infants and teachers which builds infant's social skills. Through inquiry and play, infants will explore within the prepared environment using their senses, while practicing imitation, and discovering object permanence. Infants build their communication skills through one-on-one interactions, listening and responding, babbles, imitating sounds, and basic awareness of the function of spoken language. We also encourage and teach basic sign language, which includes: more, help, all done, eat, water, milk, and thank you. Tummy time is encouraged for infants for 30 minutes in the morning and afternoon. These times are often broken apart into smaller periods.
Littles' House
The Littles’ House classroom consists of 14 children, ages 17 months- 3 years, and 2 staff. During these formative years, the children are given freedom within limits. This freedom allows them independence, as well as builds self-confidence, concentration, and critical thinking skills. Teachers carefully observe where children are developmentally and prepare the environment around them to support their needs. Children are free to explore in their beautifully prepared environment and engage in materials of their choosing. We focus on many practical life skills and sensorial materials which teach fine and gross motor skills, coordination, order, concentration, independence, and cooperation. Toddlers are taught to care for their environment through activities such as table washing, sweeping, and watering plants. Our gatherings consist of books, songs, purposeful conversation, and much more. We encourage social emotional skills through our interactions, labeling our feelings, developing manners, and cooperative play. Art is a large part of our curriculum as we study the world around us. Our morning work cycle has outdoor exploration built in, allowing us to explore our outdoors and build our gross motor skills through climbing, running. We have a strong emphasis on independence and potty training in the Littles’ House to help prepare the children for when they enter Children’s House.
Children's House
The Children’s House classroom consists of 20 children, ages 3-6 years, and 2 staff. Our preschool program is a unique environment that has been carefully prepared for a special experience. Through its doors you will observe engagement with enriching activities, experiments, hands on exploration, social modeling and relationship building. Our classroom is designed to inspire the child to discover his own learning style and habits through his own exploration of materials. The shelves are lined with scientifically proven activities to meet the needs of all areas of development through kindergarten. All of our teachers have been specifically trained for this stage of development. The Montessori curriculum teaches academic subjects such as math and language through concrete, hands-on materials. This allows for children to use all 5 senses when learning these academic subjects. There is a peace corner for children to work on conflict resolution. During our morning gatherings, the children are able to partake in contributing relevant ideas to the subject areas we are talking about. When the ideas are not so relevant, the children are able to partake in spontaneous investigation of another subject area. Weekly meditation, sit spots, and yoga are incorporated into our preschool program. The use of our outdoor area is also used daily to promote physical development through running, climbing, and playing.
